UH’s Ricketts an academic All-American
University of Hawaii senior pitcher Stephanie Ricketts has been named a third-team Capitol One Academic All-America Division I softball honoree.
Ricketts, who graduated with a degree in psychology two weeks ago, finished the season with a 28-6 record, 1.49 ERA and 10 shutouts. She has been accepted to UH’s master’s of nursing program.
To be eligible for the honor, the student-athlete must be a starter or key reserve, maintain at least a 3.30 GPA and be at least a sophomore in class standing.
HPU pair make all-region in baseball
Hawaii Pacific’s Blake Amaral and Michael Murray were named to the American Baseball Coaches Association All-West Region team.
Amaral, a senior infielder, started all 49 games this past season. He led the Sea Warriors with 45 RBIs, 68 hits, 14 doubles, four triples, four homers and 102 total bases. Amaral batted .358.
Murray, a junior, set school single-season records with nine victories and 942⁄3 innings pitched this past season. He also had a 2.38 ERA and tossed five complete games.
Fujikawa in 60th; McLachlin misses cut
Hawaii’s Tadd Fujikawa is tied for 60th after two rounds of the eGolf Tour’s River Hills Classic. Fujikawa fired a 1-under-par 70 Thursday at the River Hills Country Club, in Lake Wylie, S.C., after opening with a 1-under 71 at Palisades Country Club in Charlotte, N.C.
Fujikawa, a Moanalua alumnus, is 10 shots back of leader Brian Duncan, a conditional member of the Nationwide Tour.
Hawaii’s Parker McLachlin, a Punahou graduate, missed the cut (top 60 and ties) by one at 71—142.
