Homeless man arrested in assault of officer in Waikiki

Police arrested a homeless man in front of the Kalakaua Avenue McDonalds after he allegedly assaulted a police officer Tuesday afternoon.

Officers were called to the scene after a report of a public disturbance. When it was discovered that the man was wanted on warrants, officers tried to arrest the man, The suspect resisted, striking an officer in the face and mouth before he was subdued, police said.

The man, 21, was subdued and arrested, and is being held pending charges of first-degree assault of a police officer, resisting arrest, third-degree promotion of a detrimental drug and contempt of court.

The officer was treated at the scene.
