Vandemoer earns bronze medal
Former University of Hawaii sailor — and future Olympian — Molly (O’Bryan) Vandemoer earned a bronze medal with her Women’s Match Racing team Saturday on the final day of Sail for Gold at Weymouth and Portland in the United Kingdom.
Team Maclaren, with Vandemoer, Anna Tunnicliffe and Debbie Capozzi, is the U.S. qualifier for the Olympics. Sail for Gold took place at this summer’s Olympic venue.
The team won two matches in the morning quarterfinals against Finland, but lost in the semifinals.
Team Maclaren competes in the ISAF Women’s Match Racing World Championships at the end of June.
Ricketts, Iwata receive Easton honors
Hawaii softball pitcher Stephanie Ricketts and shortstop Jessica Iwata earned Easton All-America honors Monday.
Ricketts, who went 28-6 with 10 shutouts and a 1.49 earned-run average for the Rainbow Wahine, made the first team.
Iwata, who batted .400 with 60 hits, 57 RBIs and a .740 slugging percentage, was picked for the second team.
Oahu tennis teams take section titles
Four Oahu teams captured U.S. Tennis Association/Hawaii Pacific Section Mixed Doubles League Championships last weekend at Holua Tennis Center in Kona.
The Framers team, captained by Andrew Murakami, won the 9.0 division. Ten-S Hall of Framers, captained by Jonathan Riel and Kevin Gendrano, won in 6.0. Rubber Duckies Again (Andrea Neal and Allan Neri) captured the 7.0 group, and 96797 Team 8.0 (Lyn Joson and Benny Toledo) won in 8.0.
The four champions will represent Hawaii at the national championships on the mainland this fall.
