Arrest made after father hit with auto part
A 60-year-old Pearl City man was arrested for allegedly abusing his 81-year-old dad on Father’s Day after the two had argued, Honolulu police said.
Police said the two were arguing at their home Sunday afternoon and the son slammed the fence gate as he was leaving. The gate hit the older man, scratching his arm. A 59-year-old man intervened and the suspect threw a car part, hitting the father on the head.
The suspect was arrested after the 2:30 p.m. incident on suspicion of abuse of a household member.
Unattended incense blamed for condo fire
A sprinkler confined a fire to a living room of a one-bedroom, 18th-floor condominium in Waikiki on Monday, Honolulu fire spokesman Terry Seelig said.
Firefighters responded to the blaze reported about 12:15 p.m. in Liliuokalani Gardens’ King Tower at 300 Wai Nani Way, Seelig said.
Investigators determined the fire was likely caused by either unattended incense on a small altar next to an open window, or decorative flowers placed next to the incense.
Damage to the unit and contents was estimated to be $3,000. Water damage was reported several floors down.
Firefighters had the fire under control at 12:30 p.m. and extinguished nine minutes later. An individual who resides in the condominium was not home at the time.
Wai Nani Way was completely closed and two left lanes of Ala Wai Boulevard were closed for several hours as firefighters fought the blaze.
