Two men got into trouble off Oahu Monday night after launching their 12-foot Zodiac inflatable boat from Sand Island District Park at dusk, a fire official said today.

Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. Terry Seelig said the boat’s outboard motor apparently malfunctioned and one of the two men swam to shore and called the fire department from a pay phone on Nimitz Highway around 12:30 a.m.

When they arrived, fire rescue personnel found the second boater on the break wall fronting Keehi Lagoon near the entrance to Honolulu Harbor.

Neither men needed medical attention.
