Kauai, state firefighters battle Kokee wildfire
Kauai and state firefighters are battling a wildfire Monday on state lands above Polihale Ridge in Kokee.
The fire, reported at 8:15 a.m., is proving to be difficult to contain because of rough terrain and a lack of access to the area, according to a Kauai County news release.
The size of the fire hasn’t been determined, but fire officials said no structures are threatened.
The Kauai Fire Department was first on scene with multiple trucks and engines, a county water tender, the department’s communications vehicle and a helicopter. Personnel from the state Division of Forestry and Wildlife arrived later with additional manpower and equipment, and also requested a second helicopter to assist in providing water drops.
Officials said firefighting efforts are expected to continue until nightfall and resume at daybreak.
