Two men, one armed with handgun, attack, rob Hilo man

Two men, one armed with a handgun, attacked and robbed a 41-year-old Hilo man Wednesday morning in Hilo, Hawaii County police.

The man was taking his morning walk at about 4:30 a.m. when he was approached by two men near a car at Kaumana Drive and Puainako Avenue extension, police said.

One of the men asked the victim a question, while the other reportedly hit him on the back of the head from behind and knocked him out, police said.

The victim said that when he regained consciousness, he saw one of the men brandishing a firearm. The victim fled into the bushes when a vehicle approached.

One of the suspects is described as a man with a slightly muscular build. The second man is described as 5-foot-4 to 5-foot-7, with a dark complexion. He was wearing a black shirt, silver shorts with looked like a dragon design on it.

The car was described as an older model, light-colored, foreign make sedan, police said.

The victim’s wallet and an undisclosed amount of cash were taken during the robbery. The Fire Department treated the victim at the scene for non-life threatening injuries.
