STAR-ADVERTISER 2008 April 11 CTY - A research papaya, cut open and held by papaya farmer Ken Kamiya, photographed Friday, April 11, 2008 at Snyder Hall on the University of Hawaii at Manoa campus. The UH-led international team of 85 resarchers who deciphered the genetic code of a disease-resistant rainbow papaya are expecting to open up consumer markets for papayas in Japan and other Asian countries at the same time, improve the economic health of the papaya industry here in Hawaii and the United States.
