KAILUA-KONA >> A Kailua-Kona couple has been charged with lewdness after officers caught them allegedly having sex on a public sidewalk.

Hawaii County police say 35-year-old Dylan Trask Whelden and 33-year-old Margaret Manza were having sex Monday in front of a Kona business building. 

Police spokeswoman said Manza spit and cursed at an officer who stopped the afternoon copulation, the Hawaii Tribune-Herald reported. They were both charged with open lewdness, a petty misdemeanor. 

Manza was also charged with disorderly conduct and harassment. She was also charged with stealing a $2 blouse from a Salvation Army thrift store. 

Whelden couldn’t be reached today at Hawaii Community Correctional Center where he’s being held on $250 bail. Manza also couldn’t be reached. It’s not clear if she’s still in custody or posted $1,600 bail.
