Hawaii golfers on scholar team
Five golfers from Hawaii were named to the National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Team for Division I. Student-athletes must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 to qualify, and compete in at least half their school’s scheduled rounds.
Alice Kim (Gonzaga), Alina Ching (Pepperdine), Ka‘ili Britos (Hawaii), Kelli Oride (Notre Dame) and Cyd Okino (Washington) were honored. The five were among 602 women’s collegiate golfers from Division I, II and III to be recognized.
Special rates at Poipu Bay
Poipu Bay Golf Course has a special kama‘aina rate of $55 through Sept. 30. Golfers need a valid Hawaii driver’s license to qualify but there are no day or time restrictions. Tee times can be confirmed up to seven days in advance at 808-742-8711 or 800-858-6300.
Kauai Lagoons Golf Club is offering a family special. A family of four can play nine holes on the inland Kiele Waikahe course for $99, including cart and rental clubs. That special is good through Christmas Day.
Five Kauai courses have a Kauai Golf Challenge Package. Golfers get three rounds at Kauai Lagoons, Puakea, the Prince Course at Princeville Golf Club, Makai Golf Club or Poipu Bay for $435. The Challenge also includes a discount on some merchandise and a $50 golf shop credit at Puakea.The package can be purchased at any of the courses.
Makai also has a three-day unlimited golf package for $435 good through the end of the year. Days do not have to be consecutive but must be used within a seven-day window. Makai also has a “Nine, Wine and Dine” program.

» All four Hawaii golf courses managed by Billy Casper Golf have junior specials going on. Ka’anapali offers a juniors play free promotion through August on either of its courses after 1:30 p.m. Puakea is offering the same special any time of day, also through August. Bay View has a $99 monthly unlimited golf special for juniors involved in Hawaii high school or intermediate golf programs. Kukuiolono is $9 a day for unlimited same-day golf all year round.
» Fila Golf is the new apparel sponsor for Hawaii’s KMR School of Golf. The non-profit junior golf school run by Kevin Ralbovsky is based at Koolau Golf Club. Alumni include Stephanie Kono, Lorens Chan and Tadd Fujikawa.
» Registration is open for the second annual Prince Invitational, July 28-29, at the newly renovated Prince Course at Princeville Golf Club. The tournament is open to professionals and amateurs and also has A, B and Women’s (Open) flights.
