Saint Louis’ Goeas headed for Tennessee
Linebacker Colton Goeas of Saint Louis School has made an oral commitment to attend the University of Tennessee on a football scholarship, his father confirmed Friday.
Goeas is 6 feet 2 and 245 pounds.
He is projected to compete at middle linebacker for the Volunteers.
Hawaii, Kansas, UCLA, Oregon, Colorado, Wyoming and Nebraska also were recruiting Goeas.
Goeas will begin his second year at Saint Louis after moving from Colorado in 2011. He previously attended Lewis Palmer High School in Colorado Springs.
Goeas’ father, Leo, is a graduate of UH and Kamehameha Schools. Leo Goeas played eight seasons in the National Football League.
Kailua night doubles kicks off Sunday
Blue Moon Men’s Night Doubles opens Sunday at Kailua Racquet Club. The first week is qualifying, with eight of the 40-plus teams surviving to play the eight seeded teams the second week. Main draw play starts July 29, with the final scheduled for Aug. 4. Prince is sponsoring a tennis clinic next Saturday.
Defending champions Mikael Maatta and Jan-Axel Tribler are the top seeds. Mihn Le and Wei-Yu Su are second. Ikaika Jobe and Hendrik Bode, who won last week’s Oahu Club Men’s Night Doubles, are third.
Matches begin at 6 and approximately 7:15 each night, with Aug. 2 the designated make-up date for rainouts. There is no admission charge. Kaminski’s Cafe opens at 5:30 each night for dinner and drinks.
Blue Moon is the third and final leg of Hawaii’s Triple Crown of Tennis. Maatta and Tribler won the first stop at the University of Hawaii. The total prize purse for the Triple Crown is $10,000 — $7,500 at Kailua. Each player earns points for each win and the winning team gets a wild card into the main draw of the $50,000 Honolulu Challenger.
