Man arrested for allegedly taking car while owner uses ATM

Police arrested a man Monday night in Kaneohe after he allegedly broke into a car while the owner was a few feet away getting money from an ATM machine.

Police said they are hampered in their arrest because the suspect refuses to cooperate.

Police said a 41-year-old man parked his car at the Unocal 76 gas station on Kamehameha Highway across the street from the Hygienic Store. The suspect jumped into the driver’s seat and tried to drive off. The owner tried to stop him by jumping into the passenger seat and struggled with the suspect.

However, the suspect pushed the owner out of the car and drove away. He was later located by police and arrested on suspicion of second-degree robbery.
