Man who fell into H-1 traffic identified
The city Medical Examiner’s Office on Tuesday identified the man who jumped onto the H-1 freeway from the McCully Street bridge as Jason Kelly Williams.
The office said Williams, 39, died of multiple blunt-force injuries caused by a suicidal fall from a height. A hometown for Williams was not available.
Police said Williams had been standing on the McCully Street overpass and jumped into traffic on the freeway below at about 3:30 p.m. Monday. The Koko Head-bound lanes of H-1 were closed for about four hours, snarling afternoon traffic, as police investigated.
Cyclist killed after jumping Pali median
An Ewa Beach man was fatally injured Monday night when he lost control of his motorcycle, went over the center median of Pali Highway and collided with a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction, police said.
The 28-year-old motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police closed Pali Highway in both directions, at the Pali tunnel and Kamehameha Highway, while they investigated the 11:05 p.m. crash.
The motorcyclist, in the Honolulu-bound lanes, ended up with his motorcycle in the Kailua-bound lanes and was struck by a vehicle driven by a Kaneohe woman. She was not injured.
Police say the motorcycle driver may have been speeding.
Police reopened the highway at about 3 a.m.
Man held in stabbing of taxicab driver
Police arrested a 48-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder after he allegedly stabbed a taxi driver early Tuesday morning in Moiliili.
Paramedics took the 59-year-old cabdriver to the hospital in critical condition following the 1:45 a.m. incident.
Police said the stabbing happened after the cabdriver picked up the suspect in Waikiki. After being taken to a Kaimuki address as requested, the man then asked to be taken to a University area fast-food restaurant, police said. It was in the restaurant parking lot that the stabbing occurred, police said.
The suspect, of no permanent address, was arrested shortly after the incident in the parking lot on South Beretania Street. He is being held pending an investigation of attempted murder and several contempt warrants.
Peeping teen arrested for burglary
A 25-year-old woman awoke early Monday morning to find a 14-year-old boy in her Makiki bedroom peeking under her blanket, police said.
The woman chased the burglary suspect out of her house and called police at 5:30 a.m.
The suspect ran across Poki Street and hid in bushes in a parking lot, police said. The woman ran after the suspect and found some of her property.
About an hour later, police found the teenager at Wilder Avenue and Artesian Street and arrested him on suspicion of first-degree burglary.
