Hilo man dies from injuries in Kau crash
A 25-year-old Hilo man died Sunday from injuries suffered in an accident last week in Kau, Hawaii County police said.
The victim was thrown from his 2001 Mercury sedan on South Point Road, about 5.5 miles south of Kamaoa Road after his car struck an utility pole, ran off the right side of the road, and overturned several times at 8:47 a.m. on July 23.
He was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle.
The victim went by helicopter to Kona Community Hospital and died Sunday at 9:25 a.m.
His name has not been released.
It is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs were factors.

This is the 21st traffic fatality this year, compared with 15 at this time last year.
