LONDON >> Maica Garcia scored her second goal of the night with under a minute to play and Spain rallied to earn a 9-9 draw against the United States in Olympic women’s water polo.
Garcia scored on a power play for a young Spain team, flipping the ball past U.S. goalkeeper Betsey Armstrong and inside the near post. The goal capped a furious comeback for Spain after trailing by three goals with less than three minutes to play.
Kami Craig scored four times to lead the U.S., which is looking for its first Olympic title in women’s water polo after two silvers and a bronze since the sport debuted at the games in 2000.
With the draw, both teams remain level atop Group A with three points from two games.
Hawaii-born Tumua Anae is the backup goalkeeper for the U.S.
