2 injured in mishaps on Kauai trails
County rescue personnel helped two people injured in separate incidents Saturday on Kauai trails.
Rescuers were first called to the Na Pali Coast, where a 62-year-old Kapaa man had fallen and hurt his head while hiking along Kalalau Trail about a quarter-mile from Hanakapiai Beach.
The man was airlifted to the Kee landing zone, then to Princeville Airport, where he was transferred to the care of paramedics and taken to Wilcox Memorial Hospital in Lihue. His condition was unknown.
A few hours later, rescuers went to the aid of a 15-year-old Kapaa boy who had fallen about 30 feet from a ridge to the bottom of Hoopii Falls in Kapahi while mountain-biking with a friend.
The boy was airlifted to Kapahi Park, then taken to Wilcox. His condition was also unknown.
Robber accosts 2 children in Kalihi
Two 12-year-old children were allegedly robbed in Kalihi on Saturday afternoon, Honolulu police said.
A man flashed a weapon, ordered them to empty their pockets and took their possessions, police said.
The man appeared to be between 18 and 20 years old, police said.
Police, who are investigating, provided few details of the incident.
23 tables stolen from university test site
Twenty-three custom aluminum tables used in wood deterioration and termite experiments are missing from a Michigan Tech University test site in Keaau, Hawaii County police said.
Michigan Tech officials reported that the tables were taken sometime between July 7 and Aug. 3 from Shipman land off Highway 130 near the 3-mile marker in Keaau, police said.
