Powerball lottery jackpot reaches $320 million
CRANSTON, R.I. >> Rhode Island is looking to extend its lucky streak.
State lottery officials say the jackpot for tonight’s Powerball drawing has climbed to $320 million, making it the game’s 4th largest jackpot ever.
Rhode Islanders hit big Powerball jackpots twice already this year. An 81-year-old Newport woman won $336.4 million in a February drawing. The day after she came forward to claim her prize, another winning Powerball ticket was sold in the state. A woman in her 50s from Smithfield later claimed that $60 million prize.
Lottery officials say there have been 14 consecutive draws without a jackpot winner since June 27.
A winner who chooses the cash option would get a lump sum payment of $213.3 million.
