Kona Game Fishing Club-Taiyo took the lead after Day 2 of the 53rd annual Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament.
The leaders, who hail from Japan, have 1,268 points and are followed in order by second-place JIBT (Japan) with 1,200 points and Whangaroa Sports Fishing Club (New Zealand) with 967.
Doug Pattengill (1,267 points) of Holo Holo leads the top captain standings. John Bagwell (968) of Silky is in second, followed by Guy Terwilliger of High Flier in third (900). The tournament continues through Friday.
"This tournament takes place here because of the Kona Coast’s calm, beautiful ocean packed with billfish," HIBT founder Peter Fithian said.
