Police officer still hospitalized after Sunday crash
A police officer injured in a crash during a traffic stop in Waipahu on Sunday morning remained hospitalized through Monday.
Police said the officer, 29, broke his leg when he was hit by a car as he was retrieving paperwork from the trunk of his patrol car at the H-1 town-bound onramp at the Kunia Interchange about 7:25 a.m.
The officer has not been identified but is described as a patrol officer in the Pearl City district who has been in the Honolulu Police Department two years, police said.
The officer was responding to a request to assist a car that had spund out on a wet road and hit the guardrail, police said. Another car entering the onramp spun out and struck the officer, police said.
