Lightning hits parked plane at Las Vegas airport

LAS VEGAS >>  Officials say no one was injured when lightning struck a Southwest Airlines plane at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas.

Airport spokesman Michael Alonzo says the airplane was parked at a gate when it was struck Tuesday night.

Alonzo says the only people on board at the time were eight crew members as they were preparing the plane for boarding.

The airline told KVVU-TV Fox 5 that the captain evacuated the crew after the plane was hit.

Fire inspectors did not find any substantial damage but the aircraft has been removed from service.

Flight 529 was set to leave Las Vegas around 8 p.m. for San Jose.

Alonzo says there have been no reports of lightning affecting any other airport traffic.
