Lenny wins SUP races in Oregon
Maui’s Kai Lenny won both the standup paddleboard races to claim the overall title of last weekend’s Naish Gorge Paddle Challenge at Hood River, Ore.
Lenny edged Australia’s Jamie Mitchell by 13 seconds, finishing the distance race in 50 minutes, 26 seconds.
Hawaii paddleboarders dominated the leader board, with Slater Trout fourth (50:51), Connor Baxter fifth (52:09) and Kody Kerbox sixth (52:46).
Lenny then dominated Sunday’s Gorge Downwinder, finishing the course in 55:57, with Baxter second in 57:26. Hawaii paddlers again dominated the field, with Kaeo Abbey fourth (1:00:36) behind Mitchell, Trout fifth (1:01:47), Kerbox sixth (1:02:02), Dave Kalama seventh (1:02:15), Jeremy Riggs eighth (1:02:25), Livio Menelau ninth (1:03:32) and Noa Ginella 11th (1:05:29).
Part-time Hawaii resident Candice Appleby led the women’s field, also winning both races.
Appleby was timed in 57:56 Saturday, with Jenny Kalmbach second (59:03). On Sunday, Appleby finished in 1:14:20, with Kalmbach second (1:15:35).

Home finale for roller derby
Pacific Roller Derby’s home season finishes Saturday with a match between the Leahi Diamond Dolls and South Shore Sirens at Palama Settlement Gym.
Doors open at 6 p.m. with the bout at 7 p.m. General admission is $7 and $5 for students with valid I.D. There is no charge for 12 and under.

Youth surf meet set for Kailua
More than 120 youth ages 2 to 16 are expected to compete in Saturday’s eighth Kailua Shorebreak Classic at Kalama Beach in Kailua.
The event honors the late Jason Bogle, Peter Miller and David Aluli, three pro surfers and friends who died several years ago.
Competition starts at 8 a.m. in five divisions ranging from 6-under through 16-under.
