Technology lets skiers track progress, share photos

BROOMFIELD, Colo. » Vail Resorts Inc. is adding another feature to its EpicMix application.

EpicMix uses radio-frequency identification tags embedded on lift passes to let skiers and snowboarders track their vertical feet and which lifts they’ve ridden on the mountain.

Visitors can automatically share their accomplishments through social media if they wish and earn digital pins for their feats. Another feature allows for online sharing of on-mountain photos.

Starting in mid-December, EpicMix Racing will let visitors at resort racecourses compare their results with Olympic gold medalist Lindsey Vonn and share those results, too. Vail Resorts has a sponsorship deal with Vonn.

Vail Resorts operates the Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge and Keystone ski areas in Colorado and Heavenly, Northstar and Kirkwood in California and Nevada. Not all EpicMix features are available at Kirkwood.
