Patriot Golf Day still going strong
More than 40 Hawaii golf courses are participating in Patriot Golf Day events this Labor Day weekend. The inaugural Patriot Golf Day was five years ago, started by Maj. Dan Rooney, founder of the Folds of Honor Foundation, F-16 Pilot, PGA pro and USGA member.
Rooney asked golfers to add $1 to their greens fees. Donations of more than $1.1 million came in from 3,200 golf facilities the first year. In five years, more than $12.8 million has been raised. It has funded scholarships for 2,600 children and spouses of military men and women who were disabled or killed in action, in every state and all 41 PGA sections.
