Kauai firefighters rescued a distressed diver Friday night in waters off Anini Beach.

Kauai County fire officials said the 36-year-old man became separated from his friends shortly after 8 p.m., and they called for help around 8:30 p.m.

A firefighter found him along the reef and brought him to shore on a rescue board, officials said. The diver, suffering from exhaustion, went to Wilcox Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Ocean Safety officials said Anini Beach is known for its strong currents.
