Christy Watanabe scored in the second minute of overtime to give the Hawaii women’s soccer team a 2-1 victory over Detroit on the last day of the Outrigger Hotels and Resorts Soccer Classic tonight at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
UH (5-1-2) clinched the tournament title with the win and after tying Ball State 1-1 on Friday. The Rainbow Wahine equaled their win total from last season heading into four straight road games.
It was the senior Watanabe’s first career goal. Sophomore Tiana Fujimoto scored her team-best sixth goal in the 80th minute to tie the game.
