Hawaii County police charge Honokaa man with burglary

Hawaii County police have charged a Honokaa man for a break-in that occurred in August.

Sam R. Perez was charged today with one count of first-degree burglary and one count of second-degree theft. Bail was set at $35,000.00 and he is being held at the  police cellblock pending his initial court appearance on Monday.

Shortly before 4 p.m. Aug. 23, a 57-year-old Honokaa woman called police and reported that upon returning home, she discovered that her residence was entered and several items were missing. Police said a neighbor observed a male running through adjacent yards and recognized Perez.

Police said they have recovered a portion of the stolen property allegedly taken by Perez.
