Marines practice ‘wall of fire’ pyrotechnics display
Kaneohe residents got another preview Saturday of the wall of fire that will be part of the Navy’s Blue Angels show at the Kaneohe Bay Air Show Sept. 29-30.
Marine Corps Base Hawaii received approval from the state Department of Health to conduct special-effects displays to simulate bomb blasts and fires during rehearsals and when the Blue Angels and other high-flying acts take to the air over the base later this month.
Another rehearsal is scheduled for Sept. 28 starting at noon.
The rehearsals at Marine Corps Air Station at Kaneohe Bay were conducted under controlled conditions with demolitions experts and safety personnel on hand including aircraft rescue and firefighting, military police, airfield safety and explosive ordnance disposal, Marine officials said.
A similar five-minute pyrotechnics rehearsal last Saturday rattled windows and a few nerves.
