Hawaii's Zach Masch, left, and Moses Samia close in on BYU quarterback Riley Nelson during first-half action of a college football game between the BYU Cougars and the Hawaii Warriors on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011 at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu.

University of Hawaii nose tackle Moses Samia will miss the rest of the season after being diagnosed with a torn ACL in his right knee, head coach Norm Chow announced today.

Samia suffered the injury during the Warriors’ 54-2 victory over Lamar on Saturday at Aloha Stadium.

Samia, a third-year sophomore from Saint Louis, underwent an MRI on Sunday. Doctors will wait until swelling subsides in the knee before he undergoes surgery.

He is expected to ready for the start of spring training in 2013.
