Former POW from Vietnam War to speak at Punchbowl ceremony

Former prisoner-of-war and retired Army Col. William Reeder, Jr. will deliver the keynote address at a Honolulu ceremony this week honoring prisoners of war and those still missing in action.

Reeder was shot down and captured by North Vietnamese forces in May 1972 while on a combat mission in South Vietnam. He was released the following March.

The Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command is hosting the ceremony at 10 a.m. Friday at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. The ceremony at Punchbowl cemetery is free and open to the public.

It’s being held to commemorate National POW/MIA Recognition Day, which is observed on the third Friday each September.
