Waipahu pileup injures 6

A tow truck hauls off one of three vehicles involved in a crash Saturday evening that injured six motorists, three of them seriously, on Kamehameha Highway in Waipahu.

Police closed portions of Kamehameha Highway near Lumiauau Street in Waipahu following a three-car collision that left three people in serious condition and three others in stable condition.

Police closed north-bound lanes and one south-bound lane after the 9 p.m. and reopened them just before 1 a.m. Traffic was re-routed to Lumiauau Street.

According to EMS spokesperson Shayne Enright, a 21-year-old male driver and a 23-year-male passenger were seriously injured when their vehicle was rear-ended on Kamehameha Highway. Both were transported to a local trauma center.

The driver of the second car, a 22-year-old woman, was also seriously injured. Her passenger, a 13-year-old boy, was in stable condition. Both were taken to a local trauma center.

The third car collided with the rear of the second car, injuring a 72-year-old male driver and his 70-year-old female passenger. Both were taken to an area hospital in stable condition.
