The third-season premiere of "Hawaii Five-0" on Monday night was packed with action and new faces, but it drew the lowest Nielsen ratings in the show’s history, according to CBS.

"Five-0" finished third among the big network offerings for scripted television with 8.06 million viewers, CBS said Tuesday. The ABC series "Castle" won the hour with 10.45 million viewers and the NBC newcomer "Revolution" finished second with 9.21 million viewers.

Among adults 18-49, "Five-0" drew 1.8 percent of the total viewing audience and 5 percent of those watching TV at the time, CBS said. "Revolution" fared better, with 3.4 percent of the total viewing audience while "Castle" drew 2.1 percent of the viewing audience.

The "Five-0" premiere, which aired nationally one day after a red-carpet Sunset on the Beach screening in Waikiki, featured the arrival of Christine Lahti as Steve McGarrett’s mother, Doris. The show’s second-season finale ended with a stunned McGarrett, played by Alex O’Loughlin, opening a door to find her and saying: "Mom?" Season 3 started with the same scene.

Last season, the show averaged 10.66 million viewers for original episodes.

"Five-0" airs locally at 9 p.m. Mondays on KGMB. Next week the show will feature the return of guest star Ed Asner.
