PROVO, Utah >> Hawaii team officials said two Warriors players have been released from the hospital and were on the team charter flight Friday night after X-rays on their necks were normal.
The defensive tackles were taken to the hospital after being injured in apparent helmet-to-helmet collisions on consecutive series in the first quarter of a 47-0 loss to Brigham Young on Friday night.
Backup Geardon Hanohano was the first loaded on a backboard and carted off the field, but not before flashing a shaka.
The second player, starting defensive tackle Siasau Matagiese, was injured on the Warriors’ next defensive series. After a lengthy delay, he too was placed on a backboard and carted off. He also managed a shaka.
BYU officials late Friday said starting running back Michael Alisa is likely out for the rest of the regular season. He is scheduled to have surgery today after breaking a bone in his right forearm in the first quarter. He finished with two carries for 12 yards.
