Advance-directives event set for Halloween
Learn about advance directives on health care at "Nite of the Living Will," from noon to 1 p.m. Oct. 31.
The free workshop, presented by the University of Hawaii Elder Law Program at the William S. Richardson School of Law, will be held in the Moot Court Room, 2515 Dole St.
Advance directives on health care are legal documents individuals can use to specify their health care wishes should they become incapacitated and designate someone to carry out their instructions. These directives can then be shared with family members and hospital or health care providers.
The workshop will be led by James Pietsch, director of the Elder Law Program, which will provide free advance directive forms, a checklist and information about appointing an agent, treatment wishes, organ and tissue donation, surrogate decision making and information about the new POLST (Physicians Orders for Life Sustaining Treatment) forms.
Volunteers and trained staff will be available at the workshop to help attendees execute their advance directives.
