Hawaii island man charged in homicide
Hawaii island police have charged a Mountain View man with second-degree murder for the shooting death of a man in January in Puna.
Walter Boyd Bremmer, 48, was also charged Friday with first-degree burglary and using a firearm in commission of a felony. He is being held without bail and is scheduled to make his initial court appearance on Monday.
Bremmer is accused of killing Robert John Leong, 52. Leong’s body was found Jan. 28 at a home in the Eden Roc subdivision. An autopsy determined Leong died from ligature strangulation and a brain injury from a gunshot wound.

Ailing contractor airlifted off Navy ship
A contractor aboard a Navy supply ship off Hawaii was evacuated by Coast Guard helicopter Thursday morning after he experienced dizziness and dehydration.
The Coast Guard said in a release that the man was flown from the USNS Soderman to Hilo Medical Center.
A MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Barbers Point conducted the evacuation with support from a C-130 Hercules.
Coast Guard officials at the Joint Rescue Coordination Center Honolulu were notified at about 8:50 a.m. of a contractor aboard the Soderman requiring medical attention. A Coast Guard flight surgeon recommended the evacuation.
The Soderman is a pre-positioned stock ship with the Military Sealift Command. The command operates about 110 noncombatant ships, crewed by merchant seamen, that replenish U.S. Navy ships, conduct specialized missions and strategically pre-position combat cargo at sea around the world.
Man hospitalized after fight in Kaimuki
A man was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center in serious condition following a reported stabbing in Kaimuki Thursday afternoon.
Emergency personnel were sent to the scene near Waialae and 13th avenues at about 12:10 p.m., an official with the city Department of Emergency Services said.
A Honolulu Police Department official said the victim, who is in his 30s, got into an altercation with several people on the sidewalk and sustained injuries that were not life-threatening.
There were no immediate arrests or suspects and police are waiting to speak to the victim, the official said.

Spear fisher dies on Big Isle
A man spearfishing in Hilo Bay died Friday after he was found unconscious about 20 yards offshore.
Police received a report of a spear fisherman in distress about 11:20 a.m.
The Hawaii Fire Department said bystanders brought him ashore at Moku Ola, where responding officers found him unresponsive.
Emergency personnel took him to Hilo Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Police initiated a coroner’s inquest to determine the cause of death. The man’s name was not immediately released.
Moku Ola or Coconut Island is a small island just offshore from Liliuokalani Park and Gardens.
Man charged in home assault
Hawaii County police have charged a 20-year-old former Pahoa man for abuse and other offenses in connection with an alleged domestic violence incident.
Detectives on Thursday night charged Ronsten Keone Andrade III with four counts of abuse of a family or household member, one count of second-degree terroristic threatening, one count of kidnapping, one count of interference with reporting an emergency or crime, and one count of second-degree robbery.
Bail for Andrade, also known as Ronsten Andrade Tripp, was set at $101,000.
Police said a 19-year-old woman said Andrade assaulted her in the Hawaiian Beaches subdivision in Puna. The woman also said Andrade took some of her belongings and prevented her from leaving and reporting the incident to police.
The woman declined treatment for unspecified injuries.
