Expansion of the H-POWER garbage-to-energy plant on Oahu has been completed by Covanta Energy Corp., which operates the facility.

A third boiler has been added, increasing the facility’s capacity by 900 tons of municipal solid waste each day. That brings the H-POWER plant’s total daily capacity to 3,000 tons, allowing the plant to produce close to 90 megawatts of energy, or close to eight percent of Oahu’s power needs.

Covanta has offices in the U.S., the U.K. and Shanghai, China.
