Hazy, cloudy skies hung over the Tripler Army Medical Center this morning.

Kona winds are expected to bring muggy conditions, vog and afternoon leeward showers to the islands starting this afternoon, National Weather Service forecasters say.

A weather system in the north central Pacific is blocking the usual trade wind flow and is expected to remain in place through Friday.

The weather service says the best chance of afternoon showers is today and Wednesday because of heavy moisture in the air.

Although, high clouds may cool things off a little bit.

Forecasters say the trade winds should return by the weekend.
