A car struck and killed a woman who was sitting in a lane of Highway 11 in South Kona Tuesday night, Hawaii County police said.

The woman appeared to be intoxicated, police said.

Police identified her as Jasmin K. Robertson, 30, of Honaunau.

Police said Robertson was sitting in the northbound lane near the 107-mile marker when she was hit by a BMW sedan driven by a 50-year-old Captain Cook man about 6:30 p.m.

The driver was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.

Fire Department rescue personnel took the woman to Kona Community Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 7:15 p.m.

Traffic Enforcement Unit officers ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Anyone with information regarding this crash is asked to call Officer Larry Flowers at 326-4646, extension 229.

It was the 36th traffic fatality on Hawaii island this year, compared to 18 at the same time last year.
