The Honolulu Police Department's Specialized Services Division responded to a standoff on Guadalcanal Drive in Kalaeloa this morning.

Police arrested a man this morning on suspicion of abuse of a family member and drug violations after he barricaded himself in a home overnight in Kalaeloa. The standoff displaced several families, who could not return to their homes in the neighborhood until this morning, police said.

The standoff on Guadalcanal Drive began just before midnight on Saturday, and the man was brought in to the Kapolei substation around 8 a.m., an officer at the station said.

The situation started with an altercation at about 11:30 p.m. that escalated when the man barricaded himself in a home, according to Hawaii News Now.

The American Red Cross helped to feed the displaced families this morning.  About 27 adults and 10 children were affected, according to Hawaii News Now.
