Teenage hiker slips off ledge, falls 6 feet
A teenage boy fell Monday from a ledge above the tidal pools at Makapuu.
Emergency Medical Services said the boy, 17, was taken in stable condition to a trauma center.
EMS reported the fall occurred at about 2 p.m.
The boy was hiking with a group of three other teens on a treacherous, unsanctioned trail when he slipped and fell six feet, fire Capt. Terry Seelig said.
The teens called 911 using a cellphone, and the Fire Department sent a helicopter and picked up three of the four teenagers, Seelig said.
They landed at Pohonu Point across from Sea Life Park, where an ambulance picked up the injured boy.

The man and woman were taken to Wahiawa General Hospital and treated for smoke inhalation, officials said.
The woman also was treated for minor burns.
