Inouye cuts his head in fall at home
U.S. Sen. Daniel Inouye sustained a minor cut on the back of his head in a fall at his home in Maryland on Thursday and was taken to the Bethesda Naval Hospital as a precaution.
The 88-year-old Hawaii Democrat did not lose consciousness, a statement from his office said. Inouye has been released from the hospital.
The World War II combat veteran wanted to put a bandage on the cut and go to work. However, his family insisted on a checkup.
Inouye is the Senate’s most senior member and, as president pro tempore of the Senate, is third in the line of succession to the presidency.
NEIGHBOR ISLANDS
Project aimed at Hawaiians
The University of Hawaii and the Office of Hawaiian Affairs are offering free presentations on resources and financial aid available to Native Hawaiian students interested in attending college.
They will make 18 presentations on Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Lanai, Maui and Hawaii islands in the next two months.
The presentations will include a brief workshop on filling out financial aid applications and strategies for earning scholarships.
The sessions are part of a statewide effort to bring Native Hawaiian scholarship opportunities to underserved communities. UH and OHA are working with a federal program called GEAR UP Hawaii.
The first sessions will be held in Waimea, Kona and Hilo on Hawaii island during the last week of this month.
