Man arrested after police officer assaulted in Kailua

A man was arrested after allegedly assaulting a police officer in Kailua late Saturday morning.

Police said the man, 24,had been disrupting traffic by continuously darting into a road. After the officer arrived and identified himself, the man assaulted him and then fled. 

The officer found the man and was assaulted again. The suspect was then apprehended and arrested on two counts of first-degree assault and resisting arrest at Uluoa Street and Kailua Road, near a service station and small strip mall, about 10:10 a.m, police said.

The officer hurt sustained only minor injuries, police said.
