"Syler and the Sandpaper Towel" (Publish America, $24.95), written by Stephanie Shinno, encourages kids to find solutions to their own problems.
Upon discovering he has eczema and that his rough towel exacerbates the problem, 10-year-old Syler saves his allowance money to help purchase a clothes dryer for his family.
The good deed makes Syler realize the impact of helping others, and he continues to help his family and donate funds to charitable organizations. His eczema also improves as the dryer creates softer towels.
The story, inspired by the author’s son, is adorably illustrated in color by Vannick Douglas.
