Visiting guest stars Sokvannara "Sy" Sar (Chinese), left, Puanani Apoliona Brown (Little Bo Peep), Timour Bourtasenkov (Arabian), Joaquin DeLuz (Cavalier) and Megan Fairchild (Sugar Plum Fairy) celebrated at the Nov. 9 sponsors' party that followed backstage after the first of three performances of Ballet Hawaii's "The Nutcracker" in the Blaisdell Concert Hall.

"DOCTOR" OUTSTANDING AT HPU | 5. Cast members Larry Bialock, left, Tom Holowach, Sara Cate Langham and David Starr enjoyed the opening night reception for Hawaii Pacific University's production of "The Good Doctor" Nov. 2. Holowach stars as the Russian writer who narrates the show; he and Langham are hilarious in a story about a man who plans to seduce a married woman by pretending to ignore her. Starr is excellent as a man who accidently sneezes on his boss and then obsesses about it. The Neil Simon play runs through Dec. 2; call the box office at 375-1282.

Honolulu financial guru and entrepreneur Ash Matar, left, chatted with Patrick Gey at the Hawaii Council on Economic Education's annual dinner Nov. 8 at the Sheraton Waikiki.
