Tips from public help police arrest 3 in Hilo gambling raid

Hawaii County police seized 15 suspected gambling devices and arrested two men and a woman Tuesday in a raid on a store in Hilo.

About 9:45 a.m., police executed a search warrant at Pay Day Loans/Internet Café, 133 Makaala St. in Hilo. Besides the devices, police also seized suspected gambling records and an undisclosed amount of cash.

The search warrant was the result of an investigation using undercover officers and tips from the public, which helped corroborate suspected gambling activities at that location, police said.

Officers arrested a 40-year-old Pahoa woman, a 26-year-old Honolulu man and a 60-year-old Keaau man on suspicion of promoting gambling. They were later released pending further investigation.

The Hawaii Police Department thanks the public for providing tips and information that assisted police with the disruption of this suspected illegal gambling operation.
