LAHAINA >> Chaminade couldn’t overcome an early deficit and fell short in its bid for a second straight upset win in the EA Sports Maui Invitational with an 84-61 defeat to Illinois today.

The Silverswords could not replicate their hot shooting from their big 86-73 win over Texas the day before.

Illinois (5-0) of the Big Ten advanced to Wednesday’s championship against Butler. Chaminade (3-2) plays No. 9 North Carolina in the third-place game at 2:30.

It was the first time since 2003 that Chaminade competed in the semifinals. De’Andre Haskins scored 19 to lead the Silverswords.
