Joe Souki and company give thanks
Surely the Thanksgiving glow is shining a bit more brightly for veteran Rep. Joe Souki today, after securing the votes of Democrats and Republicans to reclaim his old job as speaker of the state House.
This may be especially so because Souki is being seen as a short-term successor to ousted Speaker Calvin Say. It’s good to be the king, but when you have to hold court among so many jesters for the long haul? Not so much.
And given that Minority Leader Aaron Johanson has put the GOP blessing on the new arrangement, could this mean bipartisan peace in the valley has come at last?
Well, let’s not allow the holiday spirits to go to our head. A brokered peace has been known to be short-lived. We’ll see if the goodwill lasts even until New Year’s Eve.
