3 arrests made, devices taken in gambling raid
Hawaii County police seized 15 suspected gambling devices and arrested two men and a woman Tuesday in a raid on a store in Hilo.
At about 9:45 a.m., police executed a search warrant at Pay Day Loans/Internet Cafe, 133 Makaala St. in Hilo. Besides the devices, police also seized suspected gambling records and an undisclosed amount of cash.
The search warrant was the result of an investigation using undercover officers and tips from the public, police said.
Officers arrested a 40-year-old Pahoa woman, a 26-year-old Honolulu man and a 60-year-old Keaau man on suspicion of promoting gambling. They were later released pending further investigation.
The Hawaii Police Department thanked the public for providing information that helped police disrupt the suspected illegal gambling operation.
Burglars strike Kailua-Kona movie theater
Burglars broke into a movie theater complex in Kailua-Kona and stole cash and electronic devices, Hawaii County police said Tuesday.
The burglary took place sometime between 2:30 and 5:30 a.m. Monday at the Makalapua Stadium Cinemas complex on Kamakaeha Street.
Police ask that anyone with information about the burglary call the Police Department’s nonemergency line at 935-3311. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call CrimeStoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona.
