HPD revamps its web page

The Honolulu Police Department is upgrading its webpage, reconstructing it to include an area where HPD detectives can seek the public’s help locating wanted suspects by publishing photos, video or other information related to their cases.

The page rolled out Friday but is “in an assessment phase,” said Capt. Andrew Lum, HPD spokesman. A formal introduction is expected in February.

In meeting Chief Louis Kealoha’s goal of broadening the department’s reach in the community, changes to the website will “feature new things that provide more information to the public in terms of community events, crime information, and wanted suspects to name a few,” Lum said in an email.

The webpage will work in conjunction with HPD’s Facebook page, which is overseen by Lum.

The wanted suspects page is being called “Na Maka,” Hawaiian for “the eye.”

“It is our hope that these new efforts will broaden our eyes within the community to rapidly apprehend suspects and address crimes promptly,” Lum said.

The HPD home page is http://www.honolulupd.org/.
