Amateurs take big jump on pros
The amateurs won all six morning matches for the first time in the 40-year history of the Gov. John A. Burns Challenge Cup golf tournament at Mid Pacific Country Club in Lanikai on Monday.
The annual event features the top 12 professionals versus the top 12 amateurs in Hawaii in a Ryder Cup format.
The professionals made a charge in the afternoon, winning two matches and halving a third. Heading into today’s singles matches, the amateurs hold a 91⁄2 to 21⁄2 lead.
Wilson finishes Q-school tied for 104th
Hawaii’s Dean Wilson shot a 1-under 71 on Monday in the sixth round of the PGA Tour’s Q-school at PGA West in La Quinta, Calif. He finished 18 shots behind the leaders, tied for 104th and did not earn his PGA Tour or Web.com Tour card.
