Edwards, who completed his junior season, is sixth nationally with an average of 30.4 yards per kickoff return. He has scored on three returns.

He is the first Hawaii player to earn a conference special teams player of the year award since kicker Jason Elam in 1992.

Edwards also was named to the MWC’s second team as a defensive back.

Defensive end Paipai Falemalu and punter Alex Dunnachie also were named to the MWC’s second team.
